Session Title: Hella Mamacitas: Young Women Cooking up a Movement!

Join the Mamacitas Cafe family and learn from the hometown 'sheroes' growing this mission-driven foods enterprise. Mamacitas Cafe is a hyper-local effort to disrupt the growing disparity in Oakland by empowering young women of color with the tools they need to build their own economic ladders. This social enterprise creates workforce entry points for systems-involved girls, ages 16-24, and provides living wages, leadership training and holistic healing services so that they can enter the workforce in a supportive environment and thrive! Of course, the morning wouldn't be complete without our famous, freshly fried Donut Kebab and Oakland's own Red Bay Coffee. Come eat, drink and join the young women of Oakland who are cooking up a movement!

Session Title: Freshening the food system

Tour the first produce-only restaurant in history and learn the magic behind CORE Foods, the most innovative healthy food company on the planet. Watch coconut yogurt being made from freshly cracked coconuts and learn how to use mushrooms and celery instead of salt. Gain a fundamental understanding of how to revolutionize our food system to serve health first.

Session Title: Beyond CSR: Taking Social Impact to the Next Level 

In this panel, Reem Rahim Hassani and Darian Rodriguez Heyman will help both businesses and individuals learn how thoughtful choices and actions can have a positive impact on people and planet within supply chains. What is tea without water? Come share in this unique opportunity to hear how businesses can work directly with producers and consumers alike to make an incredibly meaningful impact on individual lives, while simultaneously addressing some of the world's biggest challenges.

Attendees will earn how Together for H2Ope, a Numi Foundation nonprofit initiative, turned a question of global concern  for water access into action. 23 wells were built and now provide over 3,500 people with clean drinking water across 12 villages in rural Madagascar, all of which are Numi farming communities.  Now the foundation is setting its sights on serving the 6,500 residents of India’s largest organic tea farm.

PARKING: We are not able to offer free visitor parking, Paid parking is available in the Broadway Grand lot on 23rd Street between Broadway & Valley, or in the YMCA lot on Webster between 23rd and 24th St.. There is also metered street parking in the area. 
The HIVE, attended, parking lot, where Numi is located only offers paid parking after 5pm. We can not offer parking is this lot. Our front door is in located within this parking lot. 
BART: If taking BART, the closest station is 19th St., Oakland. Walk up Broadway towards 23rd St., Walk down 23rd St. towards Valley. Numi office front door is in the HIVE parking lot.

Session Title: Creating a Workplace for Our Future

Office culture is important. It’s what brings people together, makes employees engaged, and retains talent. We take it seriously. In fact, last year, Plum devoted an entire workstream towards ensuring we were creating the best workplace of our future. We interviewed each other, we changed programs, we got real with each other.

Join the HR and Insights team at Plum for an interactive talk and a tour of our newly redesigned office. Learn how we flipped our own concept of product design to challenge how our office culture could be further nurtured and developed for our team. And, yes, we’ll also taste some baby food!

Session Title: Too Good to Waste

In this session attendees will learn to help fight food waste in their daily lives and at home. We’ll start by quantifying how much food is going to waste and why consumers aesthetic standards contribute to hunger in this country. The session will cover what "ugly food" is and why is it being thrown out. Then, we’ll look at examples of ugly produce on a spectrum— wow wild and crazy can it be, and what constitutes normal looking food?

Session title: Building Buzz on a Startup Budget

In this session attendees will learn how Kuli Kuli built a brand on a budget, and how its approach can be easily replicated. Hear how Kuli Kuli grew from selling bars in just a handful of local stores to selling eight different products in more than 3,000 stores nationwide— all in less than three years. Despite their tiny size, the company has high-profile partnerships with the Clinton Foundation, Whole Foods Market, Jose Andres and Timberland. Learn how earned media and strategic partnerships fueled the company’s growth, fostering exposure in more 200 media outlets, including MSNBC Morning Joe, Fast Company and Forbes. Then, enjoy an office tour and taste some of Kuli Kuli’s delicious products.

Session Title: Sparking Social Change Through Food

Join Co-Founder Sabrina on a tour of The Town Kitchen's facilities and learn about their vision for connecting corporations to community through local food.  NewCo attendees will talk about the history of Oakland food and how race & place impact health outcomes. And of course, we wouldn't be a food company if we didn't feed you! Come hungry— NewCo attendees will get to taste & vote on menu creations from our youth kitchen staff! 

Session Title: Urban Real Estate: Invest - Develop - Engage

Hungry for change? Come see what it takes to create something new in San Francisco. Tidewater Capital created the Hall, a food+drink+community venue, as a temporary use of a formerly vacant site. This interim use has activated the building while the team prepared to build a mixed-use development.

Tidewater is now gearing up for the site's future: potential relocation of the Hall, a new building, and new public art. Learn about the development process in San Francisco, tour the current site, sample food and drinks from the Hall's vendors, and get a peek of the raw building before it is demolished and becomes something completely new.

**This session coincides with our monthly community project update which starts at 9am. Please plan to arrive at 9 am if possible!

Session Title: Starcity invites you to help build the future of urban housing. 

Our hands-on session will give you a sneak peak into the future of living in cities. Imagine helping us design ways to make cities more accessible to everyone. The participants of our last focus group saw their suggestions turn into our prototypes! We'll also present on the culture of our company, give you a tour of our newest facility currently under design and have an interactive focus group to discuss new ways of solving the housing crisis.

Session Title: Food - The Final Tech Frontier

What the fork is in our food? We just don't know, but new technology is helping us gather information about our food. Nima CEO Shireen Yates will discuss the gaps in our current food ecosystem and how food tech will fill in the blanks for food transparency. Get up close and personal with Nima, a portable food lab designed to test small samples of foods for the possible presence of specific ingredients, and test food for gluten and other ingredients. Get a glimpse at the future of the Internet of Food.

Session Title: Connecting Community to its Roots: An Urban Winery Tasting Experience

Tour the first winery to make wine in San Francisco since Prohibition! It’s a little known fact that California winemaking started not in Napa or Sonoma, but in San Francisco—SOMA, to be exact. Sadly, the 1906 earthquake ended this era of San Francisco winemaking, and whatever spark remained was quickly snuffed by the 18th Amendment. Attendees will enjoy three handmade varietals, learn the Bluxome Street Winery story, and engage in an open-floor discussion on the ways in which Bluxome Street’s business is preserving the San Francisco’s rich history through the art of winemaking.

Special Instructions for Attendees from the Host Company: There is metered parking on Bluxome Street, however, it does tend to fill up quickly during the afternoon. Meters are $1.50/hour. You can find additional parking on neighboring streets. We suggest utilizing Lyft or Uber since alcohol will be consumed.
